# VAT exempt

Invoicing exempt supplies such as healthcare, education or financial services, and how to put the legal basis of the exemption on your invoice.

Some supplies are **exempt from VAT**, for example certain healthcare (doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists), education, childcare and financial services. You then don't charge VAT. Choose **VAT exempt** in the editor.

## The reason on your invoice

An exempt invoice should state the legal basis of the exemption. By default EenFactuurMaken.nl prints _VAT exempt (Art. 11 Dutch VAT Act 1968)_. The exact article is better. Enter it under **Exemption reason**:

- per invoice in the editor, or
- as a default under **Settings → Invoices & numbering** (**Exemption reason (for exempt invoices)**).

The invoice then says, for example, _VAT exempt (art. 11 lid 1 onderdeel g Wet OB 1968)_. Without your own reason you get a tip (`exemptReasonRecommended`). Your accountant knows which article applies to you.

## VAT ID

Do you have a VAT ID (for example because you also have taxed turnover)? Put it on your invoice. If you're only exempt and have no VAT ID, you can still finalise the invoice; you just get a tip.

## All exempt?

Is all your work exempt? In the [welcome guide](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/getting-started/onboarding) choose **I am exempt**, or under **Settings → Invoices & numbering** set the **VAT treatment** to **VAT exempt**. Every new invoice then gets this treatment.

## E-invoice and VAT overview

In the e-invoice we use VAT category E with your reason. In the [VAT overview](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/vat/vat-return) exempt turnover is shown separately; you don't report it in your VAT return.
