# Connecting VS Code (Copilot)

Use EenFactuurMaken.nl in GitHub Copilot Chat in VS Code (agent mode) with .vscode/mcp.json and an API key.

GitHub Copilot in VS Code can use MCP tools in **agent mode**.

## Steps

1. Create the file `.vscode/mcp.json` in your project:

```json
{
  "inputs": [
    { "type": "promptString", "id": "eenfactuurmaken-api-key", "description": "EenFactuurMaken.nl API key", "password": true }
  ],
  "servers": {
    "eenfactuurmaken": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:eenfactuurmaken-api-key}" }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Click **Start** above the server. The first time, VS Code asks for your API key and stores it securely. So the key isn't in the file.
3. Open Copilot Chat, choose **Agent** and click the tools icon to check that the EenFactuurMaken.nl tools are on.
4. Ask, for example: _"Which invoices are overdue?"_

Want the server in all your projects? Add it with the **MCP: Add Server** command and choose your user settings.

You create an API key under **Settings → API & AI**. See [API keys and apps](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/security/api-keys).
