# Payments and status

How to keep track of whether an invoice has been paid, what "overdue" means, and how the payment QR code (EPC) and payment links help you get paid faster.

EenFactuurMaken.nl isn't a bank: we don't see payments come in by ourselves. You mark an invoice as paid. We do help your customer pay quickly and correctly.

## Invoice status

| Status | When |
| --- | --- |
| Draft | Not finalised yet. |
| Issued | Finalised, not yet emailed through EenFactuurMaken.nl. |
| Sent | Emailed through EenFactuurMaken.nl. |
| Overdue | Issued or sent, and the due date has passed. |
| Paid | Marked as paid by you. |
| Cancelled | Cancelled; the number remains in use. |

Outstanding means all invoices that are issued or sent and not paid yet. Your dashboard shows the outstanding amount, the overdue amount and what was paid this month. Under **Invoices** you can filter on **Outstanding** or **Overdue**.

## Marking as paid

Open the invoice and choose **Mark as paid**. Enter the date the money came in (today by default). From then on reminders stop.

Made a mistake? Choose **Not paid after all**. The invoice goes back to Sent (or Issued if it was never emailed).

You can only mark an invoice as paid in full. If part has been paid, leave it outstanding until the full amount is in. If your customer has to pay less, make a [credit note](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/credit-notes) for the difference. Reminders then cover the amount that's still outstanding.

## The payment QR code

The invoice has a QR code your customer scans with their banking app. Amount, IBAN, name and invoice number are then filled in correctly. This is the European EPC QR code (also known as "GiroCode").

The QR code appears on the invoice when:

- the invoice is in **euros**,
- you entered an **IBAN**,
- it's an invoice (not a credit note) with an amount above €0,
- the invoice hasn't been paid or cancelled yet,
- and the QR code is turned on in your layout and on the invoice.

You turn it on or off by default under **Settings → Invoices & numbering**, per invoice in the editor, and in your [house style](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/layouts).

## Payment links

Using Tikkie, Mollie, Stripe or another payment service? Put the link under **Payment link**: as a default in your settings or per invoice. The invoice gets a button and QR code, the email a **Pay now** button, and the online invoice a pay button.

> EenFactuurMaken.nl isn't notified when your customer pays through your own payment link. So mark the invoice as paid yourself, or automate it with the [API](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/api/guides#mark-paid).
