# Your own email domain

With Pro you send invoices from your own address, like invoices@yourcompany.com. How to set the DNS records (DKIM, SPF, DMARC) at TransIP, Versio, Cloudflare, Strato and others.

> **Pro**
>
> A custom sender domain is part of Pro.

By default we send your invoices from EenFactuurMaken.nl's general address, with your business name as the sender. With Pro you can send from your own domain, for example **invoices@yourcompany.com**. That looks more professional and your emails arrive more reliably.

## Adding a domain

1. Go to **Settings → Email** and choose **Custom sender domain**.
2. Enter your **Domain**, like `yourcompany.com` (without www or https).
3. Choose the **Sender address**: the part before the @. The default is `facturen`. It doesn't need a mailbox: replies go to the email address in your business details.
4. Optional: a **Sender name**. Leave it empty to use your business name.
5. Click **Add domain**. You now see the DNS records you need to add.

You can't use free mail domains like gmail.com, outlook.com or ziggo.nl: it has to be a domain you own.

## DNS records

Add these records at your domain provider. Copy the values exactly as shown in EenFactuurMaken.nl; the button next to each one copies it in one click.

| Type | Name / host | Value | Purpose |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| TXT | `_eenfactuurmaken.yourcompany.com` | `eenfactuurmaken-verification=<code>` | Proves the domain is yours. Required. |
| TXT | `resend._domainkey.yourcompany.com` | `p=<long code>` | DKIM: proves the email really comes from you. Required. |
| CNAME | `send.yourcompany.com` | `send.forge.rmta.net` | Sending address and bounces (undeliverable mail). Required. |
| CNAME | `rsend.yourcompany.com` | `rsend-euw1.forge.rmta.net` | Belongs to the sending address. Required. |
| TXT | `_dmarc.yourcompany.com` | `v=DMARC1; p=none; adkim=r; aspf=r` | DMARC. Recommended. If you already have a DMARC record, keep it. |

The `<code>` parts are unique to your domain; you see them in EenFactuurMaken.nl. Do you see other records there, for example an MX and TXT for `send` instead of the CNAMEs (older domains)? Then copy exactly what EenFactuurMaken.nl shows: those records come straight from our email service. A CNAME can't sit next to other records with the same name: delete an old MX or TXT on `send` first.

> **Name or host**
>
> Many domain providers only want the part before your domain name. For `send.yourcompany.com` that's `send`, and for the domain itself you use `@`.

Does your domain already have an SPF record on the main domain? You don't need to change it, because bounces go through the `send` subdomain. If `send.yourcompany.com` already has an SPF record, EenFactuurMaken.nl shows you exactly how to merge them: a name may only have one SPF record.

Keep the `_eenfactuurmaken` record, also after your domain is verified. If you remove it, we send from the general address again.

### Already in use at another email service

Do you get a message that your domain is already connected to another account at our email service? Then you (or your web developer) already use that service for this domain. A domain can only belong to one account there at a time. Use a subdomain instead, like `mail.yourcompany.com`: your invoices then come from, say, invoices@mail.yourcompany.com, and you add the records for that subdomain.

## Per domain provider

- **TransIP**: transip.nl → Domain & Hosting → choose your domain → DNS tab → Add. Under Name enter the part before your domain and paste the value. Save.
- **Versio**: versio.nl → Domains → choose your domain → Manage DNS → Add record.
- **Cloudflare**: dashboard → your domain → DNS → Records → Add record. For the CNAME records, turn the **proxy off** (grey cloud, DNS only).
- **Mijndomein**: mijndomein.nl → My products → your domain → DNS settings (you may need to turn on Advanced DNS first).
- **Strato**: strato.nl → Domains → Domain management → cog next to your domain → DNS. For TXT records Strato sometimes only wants the subdomain (like `_dmarc`).
- **Other**: search your provider's help for "add DNS record". It works the same everywhere: type, name and value.

## Checking

We check the records every hour. You can also click **Check again**. DNS changes usually show up within an hour, sometimes it takes up to 48 hours.

| Status | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| Waiting for DNS | Not all required records are correct yet. |
| Verified | All good. Your invoices are sent from your own address. |
| Failed | A required record has disappeared or changed, or another account already verified the domain. Until it's fixed, we send from the general address. |

If your domain still isn't verified after 72 hours, we remove the request and email you about it. Are your records in place by now? Then simply add the domain again.

> **Someone else added your domain?**
>
> Adding a domain proves nothing yet: only someone who can set the DNS records can verify it. If another account added your domain but didn't verify it, you can still add it yourself. Whoever verifies first gets the domain. An unverified request disappears by itself after 72 hours.

## Removing

With **Remove domain** your emails go through the general EenFactuurMaken.nl address again. You can then delete the DNS records. If you stop Pro, we also send from the general address again.
