# Customers

Add and manage customers in EenFactuurMaken.nl. Businesses and individuals, addresses, VAT numbers, per-customer defaults, archiving and the Free plan limit.

You manage your customers under **Customers**. You can also create a customer straight from an invoice: type the name and choose **New customer**.

## Business or individual

First choose the **Customer type**:

- **Business**: name, address and (usually) a KvK and VAT number. The strictest invoice requirements apply to business customers.
- **Individual**: an address is recommended but not required. For individuals we state the statutory collection costs as an amount in the [final notice](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/reminders/collection-costs).

## Details

| Field | Explanation |
| --- | --- |
| Name / Company name | Required. Printed on the invoice. |
| Contact person | Printed as "Attn." on the invoice and used in the greeting of emails. |
| Invoice email | We send invoices and reminders to this address. |
| Cc | Extra addresses, separated by a comma, for example the accounts department. |
| Address, postcode, city, country | Required for business customers. The country helps decide which VAT treatment we suggest. |
| KvK number | Optional. Useful for the e-invoice. |
| VAT number | Required for [reverse charge](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/vat/reverse-charge) and [EU customers](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/vat/eu-customers). Check it with **Check in VIES**. |
| Peppol ID | Your customer's e-invoicing address, for example `0106:12345678`. |
| Internal notes | Only for you; not printed on the invoice. |

## Defaults for this customer

You can override your own defaults per customer. Leave a field on **Your default** to use your own setting.

- **VAT treatment**: for example always _VAT reverse charged_ for a contractor.
- **Type of supply**: goods or services (matters for EU and foreign customers).
- **Payment term**: for example 30 days.
- **Invoice language**: Dutch, English, German or French.
- **Layout for this customer** (Pro): one of your own [templates](https://eenfactuurmaken.nl/en/docs/layouts/templates).

These defaults apply to new invoices. Existing drafts don't change.

## Customer overview

Open a customer to see their details, the outstanding amount and all their invoices.

## Deleting and archiving

If you delete a customer who has no invoices yet, they're gone. If they do have invoices, we **archive** them instead: they disappear from your list and from the picker in the editor, but your invoices stay intact. You'll find archived customers under **Archive**, and **Restore** brings them back.

## Free plan limit

On the Free plan you can have up to **25 active customers**. Archived customers don't count. Over the limit? Archive customers or upgrade to Pro (unlimited). Through the API you then get `402 plan_limit_reached`.
